The Junior League of Greater New Haven
Founded in 1923, the Junior League of Greater New Haven has sought to effect positive change in the Greater New Haven community by promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and supporting the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Any woman committed to improving her community, regardless of race, religion, or national origin, is welcome and encouraged to join the Junior League of Greater New Haven.
Through workshops, guest speakers, and experiential training, the League organizes and trains over 135 active and sustaining members for effective action and leadership in the Greater New Haven community. The training our members receive through their volunteer service with the League enables them to continue to be the catalysts of lasting, positive change within their own businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations in the community.
The Junior League of Greater New Haven is partnering with the Housing Authority of New Haven (HANH) and the New Haven Police Department's Westville Precinct to give back to school supplies to every school-aged child at McConaughy Terrace!
Please consider donating pens, pencils, highlighters, notebooks of all kinds, notebook paper, graphing paper, erasers, folders, three ring binders, rulers, crayons, colored pencils, calculators, and any other supply that youth need in the classroom. Monetary donations accepted and can be made payable to the Junior League of Greater New Haven right here on our website (click on the Make A Donation button!)
The McConaughy Terrace neighborhood is a part of the Elm City Communities' (HANH) developments specifically serving adults and families with children. The average median income per family is estimated at $13,000 annually. This neighborhood is home to New Haven Parks and Rec's South Genessee Park, which serves as a city wide "Beat the Heat" Splash Pad in the summer time and a year round drop off center for the CT Food Bank's Mobile Pantry program. Since 2012, the Junior League has partnered with HANH to provide programming and supportive services to the residents at McConaughy Terrace. Through countless donations and thousands of volunteer hours, we've created a community resource space including a children's library and yoga fitness room occupying one of the development's units.
